WORKSHOP ON BASIC LIFE SUPPORT (BLS ADULT)
Basic Life Support is a level of medical care used in emergency, life-threatening situations until the victim can be cared professionally by a team of paramedics or at a hospital. It can help people who are choking, drowning or are suffering from cardiac arrest, and it can make the difference between life and death for some people.
Knowing its importance and as mentioned in the curriculum, the workshop on BLS adult was held on 18/04/17 at Navodaya Medical College Hospital and Research Centre. The program was organized by Navodaya School & College of Nursing which has being coordinated by 3rd year B. Sc Nursing students under the guidance and supervision of Mrs. Shilpa, Associate Professor, Department of Medical and Surgical Nursing.
The program started with welcoming the speakers; Dr. Pranam M.J, Dr. Usha Pranam, Dr. Shravan, Department of Pediatrics, Navodaya Medical College Hospital and Research Centre. It was attended by Prof. Sujatha Laxmi, Principal, Navodaya School and College of Nursing, Vice Principal Mrs. Shameem, teaching faculties, 2nd & 3rd year B. Sc Nursing and 2nd year GNM students.
Firstly, the theoretical explanation simultaneously with video presentation of CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) had made students to easily grasp the key points to be noted whenever they were to perform CPR. Secondly, the practical using the 5 manikins available in Simulation laboratory dividing students into groups to make sure that individual student is seriously involved, well prepared and gifted with knowledge for prior assessment, observation and to perform high quality compression, breathing and circulation.
After the practical session all students including some staffs were gathered for post test and evaluation of workshop to see the overall understanding and success of the workshop. The program ended successfully enlightening the minds of upcoming nurses who all will be working under the diverse health field sooner or later so that they can perform as well as preach and create awareness among the general population.
